Global Revolutionary Activity — Why Now?

The Occupy movement began in the summer of 2011, when Canadian activist group Adbusters began organizing a large-scale protest against corporate America inspired by the “Arab Spring,” a wave of revolutions, dictatorial upheavals and large scale protests in the Middle East during the earlier part of the year.

But why in 2011 do all of these forces suddenly converge? This blog post from Paul Mason at the BBC gives some context to the sociological and technological ingredients for this chain reaction of political change.
